AboutWho makes Historipedia, and the principles we follow.
Historipedia digs up the history hidden in places across Japan through their terrain, people, industries and legends. Each region has its own site, such as Hagi Historia and Nagasaki Historia, published in Japanese, English and Traditional Chinese. We write the stories that guidebooks leave out, to be read before or after a trip.
Articles are based on public information and publications from local governments, museums, tourism associations and research institutions. Dates, names and figures are checked against more than one source wherever possible. Anything we cannot confirm is either left out or clearly marked as unconfirmed.
Local history mixes facts that can be confirmed in records with legends and popular claims. We keep them apart with the labels Fact, Leading theory, Legend and Urban legend, and never present a legend as fact.
Events in which many people died, such as the atomic bombings, wars and disasters, are described quietly, using facts and figures from the record. These pages carry no urban legends or dramatic framing.
Opening hours, prices and transport change often. This site focuses on history, and we ask readers to check the official websites of facilities, local governments and tourism associations for the latest travel information.
If you spot an error or out-of-date information, please tell us through the contact form. We will check it and correct the page promptly.
